TERRAMAR garden city centenary
1919 – 2019
Terramar will celebrate its centenary (1919 – 2019) between the months of April and September. The City Council has already finalized the calendar of events. Our Association collaborates and, in addition, will organize some events for our members.
Sitges Town Council has proposed as the official name “Terramar Garden- City Centennial 1919 – 2019”, encompassing not only the gardens, but also the entire range of initiatives projected in 1919.
Main objectives
- Celebrate the centenary of the projection, construction and inauguration of Terramar Garden-City 1919 – 2019;
- Organise a series of events to disseminate knowledge about this artistic, cultural and residential district of Sitges.
Secondary objectives, secondary mission
- Design an interdisciplinary project representing the different components of the Terramar Garden-City project: art and literature, urban planning, tourism, sport and the natural environment.
- Offer a series of open participative events and events, focused towards different types of public.
- Involve different external agents that add synergies in the celebration of the Terramar Garden- City Centennial 1919 – 2019, while, at the same time, adding various venues to the traditional cultural supply.
Contents
The structure of the centenary celebration is presented as a dual-based framework of action: an itinerant exhibition and a series of events.

The Terramar district includes some authentic architectonic jewels of recognized prestige and object of study. Classic, modernist styles and avant-garde constructions that epitomize the original essence coexist in perfect harmony.

Sitges is undoubtedly a popular tourism destination, known worldwide for its extensive and varied tourist supply and the beauty and originality of its sea front, in which Terramar plays a prominent role. A privileged climate, Mediterranean life-style and its proximity to Barcelona, make Sitges an ideal destination.

A LIFE-STYLE
Beaches and the sea have always been an important component of Terramar’s leisure activities. In addition, within the framework of the garden city project, a race track was built; it later fell into disuse, but is currently being adapted for equestrian activities. In1927 Terramar Golf Club was founded, and the club will host some european professional competition
Art and literature
TERRAMAR’S CULTURAL HISTORY
The magazine “Terramar”, linked to the urban development project, and which clearly illustrates the cultural environment of the early twentieth century, obviously also celebrates its centenary. In this context, poetry and illustrations related to Terramar will be highlighted through an itinerary and an exhibition respectively.

La revista “Terramar: arte, vinculado al proyecto urbanístico, y que ilustra muy bien el ambiente cultural de la época de inicios del siglo XX, obviamente también celebra su centenario. Además, se dará relieve a poesías así como ilustraciones relacionados con Terramar mediante un itinerario y una exposición respectivamente.
